Announcements – November 20, 2017

  • The Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society is excited about the opportunity to offer high school students community service hours at our headquarters in downtown Suffolk. We feel that this is a unique and educational way in which to acquire the hours needed for graduation. For more information, please see your school counselor. 
  • Seniors, please remember to pay your dues of $60 to Ms. Manning in the chorus room. On Feb. 1 dues will go up to $70, so pay them now! 
  • There will be an athletic banquet on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6:00 p.m. 
  • Seniors, please stop by the library to confirm your selection of your senior portrait that will appear in the yearbook. This must be done by Thanksgiving break. 
  • Seniors, your senior portraits for the yearbook are due by Dec. 8. There has been a change in pricing for the senior ads in the yearbook. This week only a full page ad will be $150, after this week it will go up to $200. Senior ads come in sizes of a full page, half page, quarter page, and 1/8 of a page. See Ms. Sapp for the discounted prices this week and questions about senior portraits. 
  • Rho Kappa students going to Kilby Shores tomorrow, Nov. 21 should return their signed permission slips as soon as possible. 
  • Attention faculty & staff: celebrate the holiday season with the senior class by wearing your ugliest Christmas sweater on Friday, Dec. 15. 
  • Juniors and Seniors, the Jostens representative will be here on November 30 and December 1 to complete your class ring orders during all lunches. 
  • Marching band members: all band rehearsals for today and the rest of the week have been cancelled. Full band rehearsal will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 28th from 3:25 pm until 7 pm.
  • Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin will be offering the Workkeys test Monday, November 27, 2017 at 6pm for the Reading for Information and 7:30pm for Business Writing. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time of each test.Students must register and pay online (see Ms. L. Johnson in the testing office if you need more information.You are REQUIRED to have a photo ID in order to enter into the class.Space is very limited; register as soon as possible to ensure a spot.

  • The Lakeland High School Marching “Quiet Storm” will host its “Meet the Quiet Storm interest meeting” tomorrow, Nov.16 from 3:15 pm until 7 pm.  This meeting will be held in the band room at Lakeland. This an opportunity for all middle and high school studentswho are interested in auditioning for the majorette, dance or flag squad to meet squad members and all band staff on this day. All participants will also receive information regarding training dates and times.

This is also the opportunity for all middle and high school students who play instruments and are interested in being in the Marching Quiet Storm band for this upcoming season to come out and meet the band director, band staff and marching quiet storm band members also! Transportation will be provided for all middle school students who are coming to this event on Thursday. Please bring a note from your parents and give it to your main office at your middle school giving you permission to ride the activity bus from your middle school to Lakeland High School and home that evening.  Please contact Mr. Wilson if you have any further questions 

All interested participants must be rising 7th or 8th graders who are zoned to attend LHS, or be in the 9th-11th grades here at LHS.

2017 Fall Non-Writing Remediation

For those 9th graders identified as needing instruction in Reading, study sessions will be held after school December 5th, 7th and 11th (Location TBA) and during school December 8th and 11th (Location TBA).  These students will retake the Reading SOL on December 12th.
