  • The journalism class invites you to check out their brand new student blog. There will be student and teacher interviews, pictures of friends and your favorite teachers. A link to the blog will be posted on the school website. 
  • There will be boys tennis conditioning Friday after school at the tennis courts from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. please make sure you have a ride home. Questions talk to Coach Jay in room 209. 
  • Marketing is selling Lakeland water bottles. They are stainless steel travel mugs that you can get personalized. The price for the logo only cup is $15, to have it personalized is $16. Please see Mrs. Wiggins, room 230 or Ms. Noble, room 228 for more details. 
  • The National Honor Society is having a school-wide toy drive to collect toys for children at CHKD. Please show your Christmas spirit and donate toys for children ages 2 and up! All donations must be dropped off in Ms. Carroll’s room (105) by December 15.

  • Mrs. Badran would like to recognize Emily Owen as a great citizen for the month of December. Emily has spent the last year volunteering with the Suffolk Animal Care, a shelter for homeless animals. She is responsible in serving her community. Emily’s name will be entered into a prize drawing.

  • Juniors – BASF Science Academy has partnered with Farleigh Dickinson University to provide a two week long summer residential program July 14-27, 2018 for outstanding high school students who will be seniors in the fall.  Students must have completed one year of high school chemistry, have a demonstrated record of academic excellence and have a strong interest in the sciences and want to connect the dots between science and business. See your guidance counselor for more information.

LHS Reading Teacher of the Year

“The Reading Teacher of the Year” is an award given to teachers of Reading who work diligently to promote literacy in and out of the classroom. The RTOY award recipients exhibit the positive attitude and motivation needed to help all students achieve reading success. RTOY will be acknowledged at the Suffolk Reading Council’s Highlights Banquet on May 8th @ 6pm at KFMS.

Lakeland’s Reading Teacher of the Year for 2017-2018 is Erin Badran. Please congratulate her when you see her in the halls.

ROTC – Formal Retreat Ceremony

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, the AFJROTC  presented a check for $200 to the Buffalo Soldiers as a donation in honor of MSgt Curtis from funds collected during our 5K Color Run on November 3, 2017. Laurie Curtis, his widow presented the check, along with Alana Moore, our unit project officer for this event.  The presentation was followed by a formal retreat ceremony where the school flags were lowered and folded.
