CavalierThe Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society is excited about the opportunity to offer high school students community service hours at our headquarters in downtown Suffolk.  We feel that this is a unique and educational way in which to acquire the hours needed for graduation. For more information, please see your school counselor. 

  • In honor of MSgt Curtis: AFJROTC is hosting a Halloween themed color run to benefit the Buffalo Soldiers of which he was a part. The color run will be held Oct. 28 at 12:00 noon at Sleepy Hole Park. The cost of students is $15, all others are $20. Water and snacks will be provided. The run is open to the public so tell your family and friends! Buy your ticket(s) in the ROTC room with Major Blake. Please come and show your support. 
  • Yearbooks for the 2017-2018 school year are on sale now until Christmas break for only $50. After Christmas break, the price will go up to $60. Seniors, from now until Thanksgiving break we will be running a special on senior ads for the yearbook; full page: $200, after Thanksgiving break, the price will go up to $300. If you would like a senior ad in the yearbook please see Ms. Sapp in room 129. 
  • Female juniors: if you are interested in playing in the senior vs junior powder puff football game. Please see Ms. Keys in room 110 to sign up. 
  • Prestige portraits will be at LHS on Tuesday, October 24 for a FINAL opportunity to have your Senior Portrait taken here at school. Sign up in the Library for a time slot.
  • College-bound students – this year, scholarship information will be shared via Google Classroom. Please join the scholarship classroom by using code: I3QQZ. If you have any questions or concerns, please see Mrs. Edwards in Guidance.
  • WorkKeys tests will be adminstered at the Franklin Workforce Center on Thursday, October 26, 2017. See the LHS website for more information.
  • There will be Boys’ Tennis conditioning this Friday after school at the tennis courts from 3:15 until 5:00. Make sure you have a ride home. Questions – talk to Coach Jay in Room 209.
  • The CAVS Care Club will be having a meeting for current and prospective members next Tuesday, October 24. All members need to be in attendance.
  • Be the first person to to go college in your family! The VA GEAR-UP program supports college readiness. Lakeland and Kings Fork High Schools have information about graduation requirements, expectations, college requirements, scholarships, financial aid and much more. See your guidance counselor, graduation coach, or Gear Up coordinator for more details! This announcement is sponsored by the VA Gear Up program.
  • The moment we have all been waiting for – INDOOR TRACK CONDITIONING will begin on Monday, October 23. Conditioning will start at 3:25 – 5:00. Please dress according to the weather. We will practice outside on the track. There will be an activity bus at 5:00 to take you home. See Coach B. Rountree in Room 200 for any further questions.
  • Picture packets that were ordered from the original picture dates on October 3 & 4, 2017 have been delivered to the students.
  • Students who received an invitation to attend the First Annual Leadership Conference – see Mrs. Williams in Guidance today if you have not already done so.
  • Mrs. Meissel’s Government students are reminded to bring their Governor’s Race Election packets to class today.
  • The next Gay-Straight Alliance meeting is today, October 23 in Room 223 at 3:15.
  • The FCCLA will be selling fresh popcorn for $1 after school at Room 117.
  • Virginia Governor Terry mcAuliffe has proclaimed October 2017 as Virginia Bullying Prevention Month in the Commonwealth. Statistics show that “more that one of every five school-aged children report being bullied.” “It’s important these students know they are not alone and that they have the right to feel safe.” Every student and staff member is encouraged to show that they are united against bullying by joining together and wearing ORANGE  on Unity Day. “Schools throughout Suffolk Public Schools will participate in Unity Day by wearing orange on Wednesday, October 25. The theme is “Together against Bullying : United for Kindness, Acceptance, and Inclusion.” Wearing orange on Unity Day sends a powerful message of support, hope and unity against bullying.” So, come on Lakeland and show your WOW…it’s WEAR ORANGE WEDNESDAY!
