Announcements – February 14, 2018

  • In honor of Black History month, we would like to recognize John Mercer Langston.  He was the first African american lawyer in the United States, passing the bar in Ohio in 1854. In 1855, he was elected to the post of town clerk in Brownhelm, Ohio, making him one of the first African Americans to public office.  
  • ASVAB testing will take place Wednesday, Feb.  21 at LH. Sign-ups will take place in the library. Students may start signing up for a space now through this Friday, Feb. 16. Only students in grades 10-12 are allowed to test. 
  • AP students are reminded that the AP request for financial assistance is due to Ms. L. Johnson in the testing office by this Friday, Feb. 16. 
  • Juniors: if you plan on taking the March 10 SAT, please see Mrs. Foster with questions. 
  • The winter athletic banquet will be held on March 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the Lakeland auditorium. 
  • Spring sports begin Monday, Feb. 19. You must have a physical to participate. 
  • Anyone interested in playing softball, please sign up with Mr. Wood in room 127. 
  • There will be boys’ tennis conditioning this Friday, Feb. 16th on the tennis courts till 5:00 p.m. make sure you have a ride home. Questions talk to Coach Jay in room 209. 
  • Biostem meeting Thursday, February 15 in Mrs. Mcdonald’s room at 3:15, we will be working on the PDR and discuss fundraising. 
  • The fellowship of Christian Students will meet again tomorrow, Feb. 15that 6pm in room 125.  The meeting will last until 7:15.  You must provide your own transportation to and from the meeting.  Remember, everyone is invited!  If you have any questions, see Mr. E. Jones in room 125.  Hope to see you on Thursday! 
  • This week kicks off Lakeland’s Suffolk Education Foundation campaign. Today is buy a valentine gram for your sweetie. Valentine grams will be available in the library during lunches for a $1. Don’t forget to get your sweetie a sweet treat. Tomorrow, Feb. 15 is backwards day…wear everything backwards. Friday is crazy hat day. To participate in each event, pay $1 in the library before school, or at the library table in the cafeteria during lunches. All proceeds go towards teacher grants, student scholarships and educational programming.
