 STUDENTS: if you are in need of community service hours there is an opportunity to earn hours here at Lakeland. Ms. Sheffield would like assistance with the recycling efforts taking place at Lakeland. This is a great way to become actively involved in helping your community and the environment as well as meeting graduation requirements. For more information, please see Ms. Sheffield in room 223 before or after school.

 SENIORS: class dues are $50. They may be paid to Ms. Manning or Mr. Earls.

 Faculty, Staff & Students: Get It Together and buckle up! My name is Shiasia Wiggins and I am a senior here at Lakeland High School and we need you to increase seat belt use! Your participation counts and all you have to do is wear your seat belt every time you get into a car and pledge to always buckle up. The campaign is called “Get It Together”. It is a seat beat challenge between participating high schools in Hampton Roads. So, start wearing your seat belt every time you get into a vehicle and please sign the pledge to always buckle up that we will be passing around. This drive safe Hampton Roads competition is being held from now until February 14, 2020. We will be checking to make sure everyone is wearing his or her seat belt, so please buckle up!

 Future Business Leaders of America is currently accepting donations for project ask to benefit children who are fighting cancer. Please bring some new card games including but not limited to Uno, Goldfish, or playing cards to Mr. Nelson, room 118. Donations will stop Nov. 18th.

 LHS Boys' Basketball try-outs - Tues., Nov. 12, 5:00- 8:00pm

 The athletic banquet will be held here at Lakeland on Nov. 25th at 6:00 p.m.

 Club photos and makeup photos are Nov. 12th. All teachers have a schedule. Seniors need to select their pose for the yearbook by Nov. 20th. After Nov. 20th, the photography company will select the pose. Anyone who had a senior photo made at another company than candid color needs to send Ms. Krauss an electronic copy of that photo.

 JUNIORS and SENIORS: if you are interested in taking the Dec. 7th SAT or Dec 14th ACT, please see Mrs. Foster today in guidance to register!

 The Scholastic Bowl team will practice on Tues., Nov 12, 3:15 in room 126.

 The Chick-Fil-A Leadership Team will take club pictures on Tues., Nov. 12, 2019, 9:45. All members, please wear your Chick-Fil-A t-shirts on that day for the picture. Please see Mr. Edwards or Mr. White with any questions.

 Marketing students: just a reminder to sell your popcorn and turn your money in daily. All order forms are due by Thursday, Nov. 14th.

 There will be a DECA meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14 after school in room 230. Students who still want to join DECA may do so on that day.

 The Faculty and Student Corroboration team is starting a campaign to see how many homeless people we can feed during the Thanksgiving season. Only 2 dollars and 8 cents will buy a meal for one homeless person. Let's see how many we can feed a Thanksgiving feast. We will start collecting loose change on Tuesday, Nov. 12th and continue until Nov. 25th.

 STUDENTS: you are invited to do a drawing. If interested in the superintendent’s school mascot art contest please report to the main office. You have to draw a picture of the Lakeland mascot. These submissions will be judged and winners will be announced by Friday, Dec. 13th.

 There will be a GSA meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12th at 3:15 p.m. in room 223.

 STUDENTS: Suffolk Public Schools will be hosting a College and Career Readiness Fair on Saturday, Nov. 16th from 8 - 12 at King's Fork Middle School. Students from middle school to twelfth grade are encouraged to attend. There will be sessions about preparing for high school to preparing for college and everything in between. There will also be college students sharing their experiences as well as colleges/universities, military and industry there to answer questions. Please come out and explore different options for your future. Don't forget, King's Fork Middle School, Saturday, Nov. 16th from 8-12, you do not have to register!

 STUDENTS: If you are in need of community service hours, the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association is willing to help. If you are interested in volunteering with the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association, please see Mrs. Williams in the counseling department or check Success Central.

 Any student who has not gotten their school ID may stop by the library in between classes to get it.

 Lakeland, because Cavs Care, we have a food drive beginning, today, Nov. 8th. We want to help feed those in need in our Suffolk community. We need you to donate boxed and canned food items. You may bring your items to your participating teachers or club sponsors daily. The last day to donate is Friday, Dec. 6th.

 Students who took the writing SOL in October should stop by the testing office to pick up your scores.

 SENIORS: Chowan University will be here this week for onsite admissions to their university, please sign up in the School Counseling Dept if you are interested in Chowan and want to find out if you got in the same day!

 English 10 students…please return the bottom portion of your permission slip for the CCAP tour to your English teacher or Ms. Bowers asap to secure your spot!

 All softball players must stop by Coach Wood’s room 127 for an announcement for winter conditioning and the upcoming season. This is mandatory!

 There will be girls tennis conditioning on Thursday, Nov. 14th from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

 Congratulations to the Lakeland High School Marching “Quiet Storm” band as they participated in the Nansemond River High School Warrior Classic Band Day on this past Saturday. The band received 1st place flags class a, 1st place majorettes class a, 1st place dancers class a, 1st place drum major class a, 1st place percussion class a, 1st place band class a, 3rd place grand champion. Congratulations on a job well done!

 There will also be no marching band rehearsal today, Nov. 12. Full marching band rehearsal will resume tomorrow, Nov. 13th.

  Congratulations to the following students on being selected to represent Lakeland HS at All-District Chorus: Destanie Artis, Faith Cross, Ciya Draper, Davion Gilmore, Savion Hart, Madison Holt, Jordan Nicholson, Anja Shepherd, Trinity Whitehead, and Trinity Williams. Also, congratulations to Malaia Jagessar for being selected as the First Alternate.
