Cavlier mascot• In honor of School Library month, we will be celebrating fairy tales. Dress up as your favorite fairy tale character tomorrow, April 13th. There will be events every day this month surrounding fairy tales, ending with Mrs. Fisher's American Sign Language group performing a fairy tale themed play at the end of the month.

• Seniors: there are still spots available to celebrate your acceptance into college with college commitment day, April 24th at ODU. You don’t want to miss this fun and exciting celebration, free t-shirt, free lunch, scholarship drawings and fun! : please stop by guidance and pick up your permission slip today and bring back asap!

• Make-up pictures for JV & Varsity Girls' Soccer, Varsity Boys' Soccer, Boys' Tennis and Track will be taken on today, April 12th after school.

• Upward bound applications are now available. Please see guidance for an application.

• Juniors and Seniors: prom tickets are on sale in room 218 by Ms. Jacobs. Tickets are $60 each. In order to get your ticket each person must have a contract for conduct and dress code signed. Ladies please get your dress approved by Ms. Jacobs if you are unsure. In order to go to the prom, all junior and senior dues must be paid.

• There will be an NHS meeting for all current members today, April 12th after school in room 105.

• Seniors are reminded to turn in all financial aid award letters to Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Foster in guidance.

• Seniors: please pay your senior dues of $70 to Ms. Manning in the chorus room. You cannot participate in senior activities or buy a ticket to the prom until you do so.

• There will be a senior class meeting after school today, April 12th. Please plan to attend.

• Attention Ladies of Ddistinction: everyone who are planning to attend the gala, the sign up sheet will be on Ms. Reese’s door. If you are not planning to attend and do not have transportation please do not sign up. The gala is April 28th.

• There will be an FCCLA meeting today, April 12th at 3:15 p.m.

• There will be off-season football workouts today from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

• Beginning Monday, April 16th through Thursday, may 17th the Lakeland marching “quiet storm” band will be conducting its annual spring band mini camp 2018. The time of spring band mini camp will be from 3:25 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. please come out and be a part of this year’s Lakeland marching “quiet storm” band. For more information please see Mr. Wilson. • Juniors: looking for a way to complete your community service hours... Riverside Regional Medical Center's volunteer program application is available online. Application deadline is May 1st. Please visit your school counselor for more information.

• Students: are you looking for an exciting and educational opportunity this summer? Several colleges and universities are offering summer experiences, James Madison Univ., William and Mary, Harvard Univ., Adelphi Univ. and Prince William Sound College. Please view the posters on the guidance hall for more information.

• Students: Suffolk Parks & Rec has announced their 2018 summer counselor-in-training (cit) program has begun to accept applications. This is a great way to earn community service hours and perform fun an excited activities with our elementary school students. Students from ages 14-18 can apply. If you are interested in applying please see your school counselor.

• Seniors: the NUCOR Corporation has an exciting opportunity for those who may be thinking about a career as an electrician. Nucor Technical academy will begin a new session for electricians in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Tuition is free for students with a 3.0gpa, great benefits and NUCOR will help you move to Tuscaloosa. If you are interested please see Mrs. Williams in guidance.

• Seniors: the Newport News Shipbuilding apprentice school will be hosting an open house on Saturday, April 28th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Registration is now open and you must register to attend. They will be sharing detailed information about apprenticeship opportunities. If you would like to attend please see your counselor for more information.

* Mrs. Elmore would like to nominate Taylor Oak and Dashawn Gibson for displaying April's character development traits. They are a big encouragement to Mrs. Elmore, and very helpful in class, acknowledging proper behavior after disruptive behavior is exhibited. They stand up for what is right in support of the teachers directives.

* Two artist from Lakeland High school received awards at the 2018 Elie Wiesel Visual Art Competition.

1st place award went to Tatiyahna Blakely
3rd place award to Autumn Branch

This was a beautiful event to attend we are all very proud of our art students here at Lakeland, who participated in the moving experiencing learning about the holocaust.
