CavalierVisitors are coming, visitors are coming...
Lakeland High School will participate in an Advanced Performance Accreditation Review on February 19, 2019. "The review process examines the whole institution - the programs, the culture context, the community of stakeholders - to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students."
In preparation for the performance accreditation review, faculty & students will be asked to complete surveys via email in the coming weeks. The completed surveys will provide data needed for the review team visiting "The Home of the Cavaliers" in February. Additional information will be shared as preparations are underway.

SENIORS - Reminder for those of you who have already applied to colleges or universities. Please make sure you are checking in with them to verify that everything has been received such as transcripts and test scores. Also, make sure Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Foster is receiving a copy of your acceptance letters as you receive them.

The ASVAB will be administered on Tues., Feb. 12.

JUNIORS, - if you have not registered for an SAT in the Spring (test dates are March 9, May 4 or June 1) or and ACT (Feb. 9, April 13 or June 8), please register soon. Seats will fill up fast as it gets closer to test dates. Please return your fee waiver application & release forms to Mrs. Foster, or if you have any questions, please see Mrs. Foster ASAP!

Off season football workouts will be held Mon. - Thurs., 4-6:30p for all new and returning players. Attendance is mandatory.

Beginning on Mon., Feb. 4, we will be celebrating CTE month. Stop by Room 152 to answer the Technology question of the week to enter the drawing for a prize from Mrs. Parker!

"Cavs for a Cure", our Relay for Life team will meet on Mon., 2.11, 3:10p in the Art Room. Please be on time. Today is our startup meeting, you may join at at any time. If you have the time, come out today to help us get started.

In order to raise money for the Suffolk Education Foundation, Mr. Wagoner is pulling out off the stops. If at least $100 is raised by Feb. 12, he will kiss a live pig at the upcoming pep rally. That's right, Mr. Wagoner will kiss a pig if YOU raise the funds. Don't miss this opportunity. Come by the library and donate $1 to the cause. A kisso'meter is located outside the library to keep track of your donations.

The Zeta Epsilon Mega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. invite you to participate in the CAP Program. (College Admissions Process) Program. This is their Signature Program an it designed to assist students that are planning to attend college in completing applications, SAT and ACT prep, writing personal statements, identifying scholarships and financial aid, as well as other components of the admission process. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Milan in Room 120 or Mrs. Phillips in Room 219 to apply or check with the Guidance Department.

February's character development traits are honesty and fairness. Honest and fair students follow rules, they don't plagiarize their written work. They turn in found objects and they consider other people's point of view. Teachers, if you have a fair and honest student in class, please send that student's name to the library. They will be called down at the end of the month for a prize.

The Suffolk Education Foundation starts is fundraising efforts on Mon., Feb. 11. Monday is Hat Day - students may wear a hat all day for a $1 donation in the library. Only students wearing a library issued sticker will be allowed to wear a hat on Monday. Monday also starts off Staff Jean Week. Staff may wear jeans next week, through Thursday, for $5 each day. Please bring all monies to the library throughout the week.

Senior Football players - your football banners are still available. They are only $40. Please see J'on Russell to purchase your banner or for more details.

Girls' soccer conditioning will be held on Thurs., Feb. 7 and next week on Tues. & Thurs., 2.12 & 14 beginning at 3:0. Questions, talk to Mrs. Foster in Guidance.

Potential Softball players - There will be a mandatory Softball meeting on Tues., Feb. 12, 5:30. You and a parent/guardian must attend! Failure to attend will mean to CANNOT try out for Softball. You must also complete a VHSL physical by tryouts or you will not be able to try out. See Coach Wood if you have questions.

Sophomores - The SPS Career and Technical Education Advisory Council will be sponsoring the Tenth Annual Non-Traditional Extravaganza on Thurs., Feb. 21 at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Suffolk Riverfront. Professional business attire is required (NO Jeans). Students will depart from school at aprox. 8:45a and return at 10:45a. Return your field trip form to your CTE or English teacher. For more information, contact Mrs. Paul.

The Library will be selling Valentine grams on Wed., 2.13 for $1 to support the Suffolk Education Foundation. Pay for a lollipop with a heart, ribbon and nerdy pick-up line before schools or during lunches. Then, pick it up in the Library for your Valentine anytime on Thursday.
