CavalierVisitors are coming, visitors are coming, visitors are coming...
Lakeland High School will participate in an Advanced Performance Accreditation Review on February 19, 2019. "The review process examines the whole institution - the programs, the culture context, the community of stakeholders - to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students."
In preparation for the performance accreditation review, faculty & students will be asked to complete surveys via email in the coming weeks. The completed surveys will provide data needed for the review team visiting "The Home of the Cavaliers" in February. Additional information will be shared as preparations are underway.

SENIORS - Reminder for those of you who have already applied to colleges or universities. Please make sure you are checking in with them to verify that everything has been received such as transcripts and test scores. Also, make sure Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Foster is receiving a copy of your acceptance letters as you receive them.

The character development traits recognized in January are "caring and generous". Generous people are the ones who give more than is expected of them. A caring person displays kindness and concern for others.

SENIORS: Please pay your dues to Ms. Manning in the Chorus Room. Dues are $60. On Feb. 1, dues will increase to to $70.

There will be an interest meeting for Boys' tennis on Thurs., Jan. 31 @ 3:15p in Room 209. Make sure you have a ride home. Questions, talk to Coach Jay.

The ASVAB will be administered on Tues., Feb. 12. Only students in grades 10-12 should sign up. Students must sign up in the Library school, during lunches, and after chool. Students must sign up by Fri., Feb. 8.

JUNIORS, - if you have not registered for an SAT in the Spring (test dates are March 9, May 4 or June 1) or and ACT (Feb. 9, April 13 or June 8), please register soon. Seats will fill up fast as it gets closer to test dates. Please return your fee waiver application & release forms to Mrs. Foster, or if you have any questions, please see Mrs. Foster ASAP!

We are excited to announce that Lakeland High School will be participating in the Suffolk "Relay for Life" through the American Cancer Society. Our team name is "Cavs for a Cure". We are looking for active members who will participate with fun activities to raise awareness and funds for our team this year. If you are interested in being a team member, please sign up on the list located in the Media Center. We are happy to have you join our team. Team members can be students, staff and family members.

Off season football workouts will be held Mon. - Thurs., 4-6p. Attendance is mandatory. NO off-season conditioning on Wed., Thurs., Fri., and Mon., 1.24, 25, 26 & 28. Conditioning will resume on Tues., Jan. 29.

Congratulations to Landon Wigg for winning the library's Rubber Ducky contest! Come on down to the library to pick up your gift card. All participants in the contest may also pick up their rubber duckies.

The Ladies of Distinction are sponsoring a "Healthy Relationship Conference" on Sat., Feb. 9, 5-9p at KFHS. This event features interactive workshops and exciting formal banquet where the attendees will be treated like royalty. The conference will focus on healthy relationships, healthy dating, choosing friends wisely, and respect for self and others. It is FREE for all Ladies of Distinction ($35 for non-members. Please come dressed! See Ms. Snead in room 232 for permission slips. Return permission slips to Ms. Snead no later than Fri., Jan. 28, 2019.

Dual enrollment payments are due immediately.

A volleyball interested meeting will be held on Thurs., Jan. 31, 2:30pm. You must sign up on the gym door in order to attend.

Good luck on mid-terms! - from the Football Coaching Staff

Softball players - practice for Tues., Jan. 22 has been cancelled. Practice will resume Tues., Jan. 29 until try-outs. Players are reminded to schedule an appointment to get physicals ASAP.

There will be an FCCLA meeting on Mon., Feb. 4, 2019 in Room 115.

Are you considering a career in healthcare? Check out the Obici Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary Scholarship, available to all graduating seniors. Applications are available in the Counseling department, and the '"Success Central" google classroom.

PSAT Parent Information Night will be held on Wed., Jan. 30, 6-7:30p at Nansemond River HS.
