CavalierStudents seeking information to take the WorkKeys test should NOT contact Paul D. Camp Community college. If you are seeking WorkKeys information, please see Ms. L. Johnson in the testing office or Ms. Spruill in Guidance.

Female students interested in participating in the Ladies of Distinction should see Ms. Snead in Room 232 for an application. There will be a meeting today, Oct. 1 immediately after school. The activity bus will be available.

There be a Senior/Parent Night and Financial Aid night on Thurs., October 4, 2018, 6-8p. See post for more details.

The Scholastic Bowl team will practice on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 immediately following school in room 126. Practice will last one hour. Please plan to provide your own transportation or ride the 5:30 bus.

Students - do you know where you want to go after graduation? Come to college night at NRHS, Monday, October 1, 6-8p.

Come to P.D. Camp Community College's VACRAO College Night at our Franklin campus on October 2, 7-8:30p. There will be over 70 colleges, universities, trade schools and military branches in attendance. This event is FREE and open to the public. We hope to see you there! Students who are interested in attending an arts focused college are encouraged to attend. They will be doing some onsite admissions and review.

It's FAFSA Night Out. It's FAFSA time. Come file your 2019-20 FAFSA on October 2, 2018, 5:30-7p at the Workforce Development Center, Franklin, VA. Bring all tax and income information for 2017.

American Sign Language is looking for new members. If you enjoy Christmas music, come learn it in sign. You do not need to be taking American Sign Language classes. Come join us! For more information, come see Mrs. Fisher in room 103.

Students interested in the Art Club may sign up on the Art room door. You do not have to be a current Art student to be in this club. Please see Mrs. White if you have any questions.

Female students interested in computer science as a career, please see Ms. Bowers in Guidance for a prestigious award opportunity. Serious female students only!

If you plan to play softball in the Spring and are not playing a fall sport, please come by and see Coach Wood in Room 127. Fall skills practice will begin next week, and you need to be at practice to better your skills.

School pictures are next week in the Auditorium on Tues., Oct. 2 and Wed., Oct. 3. Students will take pictures during their English classes, and Faculty should plan to have pictures taken during planning blocks. Order forms are available from English teachers.

Seniors, did you miss your summer photo session? Are you a Junior graduating early? Lifetouch will be here on Fri., Oct. 5 to shoot senior formals. There is a $35 sitting fee if you are buying photographs. But, if you just want a picture to be in the yearbook, it's free. Sign up for time outside room 111 today.

The Governor's School for the Arts is pleased to host a college fair on Sat., Oct. 13, 2018. This is for all the fine arts (visual and performing). This is an amazing opportunity to look at art schools from across the east coast of the United States. Think of your future, here yo can learn how to plan for your art school path after Lakeland. The READBOX is back in the library! Books that have been recently made into movies or Netflix series are featured in the READBOX in the Library Media Center. Students who check out one of these books get a free bag of popcorn. Yes... free popcorn, to take with them.

Congratulaitons to the LHS Marching "Quiet Storm" Band. The band received 1st place in the Suffolk Peanut Fest Parade this past Saturday. Congratulations on a job well done!

Hampden-Sydney College will be in the cafeteria today, Oct. 1, 1:30. If you are interested in learning more about this college, please stop by during lunch.

The cafe will be open this Wednesday, Oct. 3.

There will be a meeting for all current NHS members on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 3:30p in room 128. Any questions, please see Mrs. Madden in room 128.

October is Disability Awareness Month. Cerebral palsy is associated with movement, muscle tone, and posture. Cerebral refers to the brain and palsy means weakness or lace of muscle birth, caused by a reduced blood supply and lack of oxygen to the brain. Please with cerebral palsy may experience epilepsy, and may have difficulty with awareness and comprehension.

The drama rehearsal for male characters will be on Tues, Oct. 2, 3:10 - 4:45p. Full cast rehearsal will be Wed., Oct. 3, Please Mrs. Ertekin if you have questions.

The regularly scheduled Student Council meeting for today, Oct. 1 is cancelled. Please check the Remind app for additional information about upcoming meetings.

The next GSA (gay/straight alliance) meeting is Thurs., Oct. 4 in room 223. Come plan some exciting events to make LHS a more inclusive school!
