Graduation Requirements

Diploma Options

High school students are required to earn 22 credits to graduate with a standard diploma and 26 credits for an advanced studies diploma. Beyond a high school diploma, students have diploma options including Academic Scholars, Early College Scholars, and Paul D. Camp Community College Degree or Certificate.

Advanced Diploma Requirements

Students entering 9th grade for the first time in 2018-19 and beyond
Students entering 9th grade for the first time in 2011-12 to 2017-18

Standard Diploma Requirements

Students entering 9th grade for the first time in 2018-19 and beyond
Students who entered 9th grade for the first time in 2011-12 to 2017-18

Service Learning Requirement

Students who enrolled in grade 9 in 2020-21 and beyond will be required to complete a service learning experience embedded in a core area course.  Service learning experiences enable students to learn to apply academic, social and personal skills to improve the community, continue individual growth, and develop a lifelong ethic of service.

Virginia's Credentialing Initiative

First-time ninth graders in the 2013-2014 school year and beyond must earn a Virginia Department of Education approved Career and Technical Education industry credential to graduate from high school with a standard diploma.
